Gitanjali JB, a management professional, started the ‘Himalayan Institute of Alternatives’ which is a very unique experiment in higher education, following the pedagogy of contextual and experiential learning. She has also helped to raise funds over two crores for the initial development. Despite facing bureaucratic obstacles and difficulty in acclimatising to Ladakh’s chilling weather, she is now working on launching the first fellowship program in Integrated
Mountain Development by designing the curriculum and recruiting faculty. According to Gitanjali, volunteering is the purest form of selfless service.
